Important Features to Consider

Level 1 chargers are ideal for residential use, as they plug directly into a common 120V outlet, requiring minimal installation. Known as "slow" chargers, they can recharge a vehicle in approximately 8 to 16 hours. If you have a longer commute or drive frequently, our experts recommend upgrading to a Level 2 charger.

Level 2 chargers are suitable for both commercial and residential applications, including apartment complexes, retail spaces, workplaces, and university campuses. These chargers charge about 5 to 7 times faster than Level 1 chargers due to their higher energy output. They can recharge a vehicle in approximately 4-8 hours. They often come equipped with smart software for intelligent charging and management software for monetizing and billing purposes.

Level 3 chargers are primarily used in commercial settings or along major roadways, serving as "gas stations" for electric vehicles. These chargers can fully charge an electric vehicle in 20-minutes to under 1 hour. Due to the significant infrastructure required, they are less common for residential use.

Connectivity: Energy Electric offers chargers with Wi-Fi, cellular, and non-networked options for both home and commercial use. Wireless connectivity provides several benefits for managing charger performance, including smart charging capabilities that allow you to set charging schedules during off-peak hours to reduce grid strain. Additionally, remote access enables you to optimize performance and diagnose issues without the need for a technician to visit the site.

Monetization: You can provide customers with the option of free charging or install a credit card reader to charge for usage. This decision will depend on your specific application and business model.

Charger Cable Length: It is important to choose a charger with an appropriately sized cable based on its proximity to the vehicle. Most cables range between 15 to 25 feet, and having a cable that is too short or too long can cause issues in the long run.
